Man jailed for unprovoked murder of family man

A man has been sentenced to at least 27 years in prison for stabbing a a 55-year old man to death in a park in Camden, north London.

Mark Carroll died after an unprovoked attack by Rasheed Rahman, 21, in St Martin's Gardens on 10 April May 2024.

Rahman previously denied murder, but was found guilty following a trial at Wood Green Crown Court. He as also convicted of carrying a knife, threatening with an offensive weapon and robbery.

Following sentencing on Thursday, Carroll's daughters Danielle and Ayisha said: "Our Dad was a loving father and a devoted grandfather who meant the world to his family. While our family is relieved by today's sentence, it does not bring our dad back."

They added: "This was an unprovoked attack on a completely innocent, dearly loved man.

"Nothing made him prouder than being surrounded by his family. When we were all together, there was always laughter.

"The memories we made together, the happiness we shared, and the love he gave so freely are things that we will cherish forever."

Police and medics were called to St Martin's Gardens after receiving reports of an unresponsive man.

Officers found Mark Carroll with a stab wound and he died in hospital.

Rahman was located by officers nearby and arrested on suspicion of murder.
