Alan Kelly was jailed after a hearing at Northampton Crown Court

An 18-year-old man has been jailed for 11 years after he stabbed another man in the chest, leaving him with life-threatening injuries.

Alan Kelly, from Lutterworth Close, Northampton, was found guilty of attempted murder after a "violent and dangerous attack" in the town on 5 February 2025, police said.

The knife went through the other man's right lung and grazed his heart and after an "extensive period in hospital" he made a full recovery, the force added.

Kelly was sentenced at Northampton Crown Court after he was convicted of the charge in May.

Police said the incident happened on Kingsthorpe Road, when Kelly and Arilleus Wright, 21, were involved in an incident during which Wright was stabbed.

Wright went for help in a nearby shop where he received first aid until paramedics arrived.

After a police investigation, both men were arrested.

Wright, of no fixed abode, was found guilty of being in possession of a knife blade/sharp pointed object in a public place.

He was jailed for a year and two months at Northampton Crown Court in July 2025.

Det Sgt Baz Hughes said: "This was a violent and dangerous attack which left the victim with life-threatening injuries.

"Thanks to the swift actions of members of the public and emergency services, he received the urgent medical treatment he needed and thankfully went on to make a full recovery.

"Kelly's actions that evening could easily have resulted in the loss of a life."

Det Insp Nicky McAllister added: "This sentence reflects the seriousness of Kelly's offending and demonstrates our determination to bring violent offenders before the courts."
