Rob Callister appointed Minister for Housing and Communities
Isle of Man GovernmentOnchan MHK Rob Callister has been appointed as Minister for Housing and Communities.
It is a new position within the Council of Ministers created by Chief Minister Chris Thomas.
Callister will lead the development of a housing action plan to provide up to 1,000 affordable homes over ten years.
"Housing is one of the biggest challenges facing the Isle of Man, and I am delighted to take on the role of Minister for Housing and Communities," Callister said.
He said having a safe, secure and affordable home was "fundamental to the Island's future prosperity".
Callister said he looked forward to working with colleagues, local authorities and the wider community to "turn ambition into action", increase the delivery of homes and "make a real difference to people's lives over the next five years".
'Significant amount of work'
The Chief Minister said when he set out his manifesto, he made a clear commitment to fix housing.
"There is action we can take, but there is a significant amount of work ahead, and I am grateful to Mr Callister for taking on this critical area of responsibility," he said.
It is not the first time the Onchan MHK is holding a ministerial post.
In 2022, he was named Minister for Health and Social Care. The following year, he became chair of the Planning Committee, a role he held until last month's election.
