The reopening of a bridge will be delayed after further damage was found to the structure.

Repair work to the former railway bridge at Cumwhinton, near Carlisle, started in September, but Cumberland Council maintenance teams then identified issues with the bridge parapet.

Part of the B6263 road is due to reopen by 23 October, subject to weather and site conditions, with closures from 09:00 BST to 15:30 on weekdays, the council said.

A signed diversion remains in place, but access for pedestrians will be maintained at all times.
