Bridge work to bring disruption over five months

Work to repair a bridge connecting a city's key routes is expected to bring disruption over five months.

Durranhill Viaduct in Carlisle, which links Warwick Road on the A69 and London Road on the A6, needs new bridge expansion joints, resurfacing work and repair to sections of the stone parapet.

From 28 September there will be temporary traffic lights and partial closures of the footways along the viaduct, which carries Eastern Way on the C1045.

Cumberland Council, which is managing the scheme, said the work was expected to be finished by February, with a pause in work over the Christmas and New Year holidays.

The viaduct crosses the Settle to Carlisle and Carlisle to Newcastle railway lines.

Part of the work on the structure took place earlier this year, with disruption over about three months.

Drop-in sessions organised by the council are taking place on Tuesday at Harraby Community Centre and on Thursday at Botcherby Community Centre.

Both events, which will allow residents and businesses to get more information on the work, are taking place between 16:00 and 18:00 BST.
