A record number of 35,000 people have taken part in this year's Great Scottish Run through the streets of Glasgow.

Fun-running adults and children joined elite athletes to take part in a weekend of events which kicked off on Saturday.

Sunday's runs included a 10k and a half marathon, with Scotland's 2022 Commonwealth Games gold medallist Eilish McColgan and charity fundraiser Craig Ferguson the official starters.

Saturday's schedule saw the return of events for junior runners and toddlers, after fears over Storm Amy last year forced them to be cancelled.

Jamie Crowe of Central Athletics Club won the men's half marathon in 1:03:27, with Katrina Ballantyne of Leeds City Athletic Club taking the women's title in 1:13:33.

Katrina said: "I didn't expect this at all. I only signed up about a month and a half ago because a few of our friends were doing it, and I thought I'd get a bit jealous watching them all.

"The Glasgow crowd were amazing. They really carry you round.

"Running is my hobby. I'm a dietitian and I run to commute, so a lot of my training is done with a backpack on, running to and from work."

Four-time Olympian Eilish McColgan rang the half marathon start bell.

She said: "The atmosphere in Glasgow today was incredible.

"Standing on the start line and seeing everyone set off was really special. It was an honour to ring the bell to start the half marathon."
