A Royal British Legion volunteer who was a standard bearer at two major state occasions said she was "just blown away" to be recognised in the King's Birthday Honours.

Claire McCabe, who was selected to represent the Armed forces organisation at the late Queen's funeral and King Charles III's coronation, has been made an MBE.

She said it was an "honour and a privilege" to be associated with the charity, which helps to fundraise in the south of the island.

The island's emergency planning officer Jane Kelly, who has also been made an MBE, is among five island residents to be recognised.

Kelly was commended for leading the island Civil Defence Corps to support the vulnerable during the Covid pandemic and for her work to update the government's plan to prepare for dealing with emergencies, major incidents and critical events.

McCabe, who is a poppy appeal coordinator and carried the Manx flag at the Tynwald Day ceremony, was given her honour for services to the Royal British Legion and the veteran community.

The former police officer, who now mentors and trains the next generation of standard bearers, said: "Every time I step out as a representative of the Royal British Legion, it's an honour and a privilege.

"It's my way to pay respect to those who sacrifice for our country so to receive an honour when I'm really saying thank you to others - I'm just blown away.

"I would like to say a huge thank you to those who have helped and supported me over all the years."
