Man to face murder trial over fatal shooting

A provisional trial date has been set for a man accused of fatally shooting another man at a travellers' site.

Shane Porter, 35, of Calcutt Park near Cricklade in Wiltshire, is charged with the murder of Jimmy Ward, 36, as well as possession of a shotgun without a certificate. His father Eddie Porter, 74, and sister Tammy Brown, 42, both from Luton in Bedfordshire, are charged with assisting an offender and possession of a shotgun without a certificate.

Ward was pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting on Sunday morning.

Bristol Crown Court heard earlier that the trio would reappear in court on 2 October for a hearing, ahead of a potential three-week trial from 1 February 2027.

All three defendants were denied bail.

The court previously heard a shotgun, believed to have been used in the fatal incident, had been recovered in Hungerford.

Earlier this week, Det Ch Insp Phil Walker said: "I'd like to express again my thanks to the local community for their patience and support since Sunday.

"I appreciate the significant concern this incident has generated, so please consider speaking with officers about any information or concerns you may have."

The family of Jimmy Ward displayed a picture of the 36-year-old in Times Square in New York as a tribute on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, a cordon remains at the site of the shooting while investigations continue.
