Drivers warned as plane wings escorted along M5

Drivers are being told to expect delays as two 17-metre long steel plane wings are escorted along a motorway.

Gloucestershire Police said the abnormal loads will travel northbound on the M5 on Tuesday, before exiting the motorway at junction 11A Brockworth Interchange at about 14:30 BST.

Escorted by police, the wings, which are 4.85-metres wide and weigh 60-tonnes, are being transported from Essex to Brockworth, near Gloucester.

A police spokesperson said: "Traffic disruption will be kept to a minimum."

Both loads will travel along the B4641, to Delta Way, then onto Hurricane Road before its final destination on Golf Club Lane.

"Motorists are advised to avoid this route at the relevant times or allow additional time for their journey," the police spokesperson added.
