Bid launched for 410 new homes near motorway
Edge Urban DesignA bid has been launched to build 410 new homes near a motorway.
Mac Mic Strategic Land wants to build the new estate on land between the A38 Bristol Road, Bridgwater, and Pawlett Road by the M5.
The land promoter has submitted proposals for the homes and a commercial unit to Somerset Council, and a decision is expected by summer 2027.
A spokesperson for Edge Urban Design, which is representing the applicant, said the land "presents an opportunity to support Somerset Council in meeting future housing needs".
In February, Somerset Council declared the plan would "not likely have significant effects on the environment" after a screen request was submitted, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.
Edge Urban DesignIf approved, the development will be built on land north of the Dunball services and includes at least 123 affordable homes, an orchard and allotments.
Edge Urban Design said: "The site is not subject to green belt designation, national or local policy constraints relating to heritage, landscape or nature conservation, and is not affected by phosphate neutrality requirements.
"The site is located in a sustainable and accessible location, with proximity to strategic employment areas and a range of services and facilities within typical walking and cycling distances, including employment, schools and food stores.
"This location supports the delivery of new homes alongside economic growth and access to employment opportunities."
