Volunteers are needed to help the thousands of spectators expected in Cumbria

Tour de France organisers are seeking volunteers to help visitors to the Cumbrian stages of the race next year.

Thousands of spectators expected to come to the county as the race passes through, with other events taking place alongside the cycling.

It will be the first time the race has come to Cumbria, with stage one of the men's race finishing in Carlisle on 2 July and stage two starting in Keswick and passing Windermere the next day.

Councillor Anne Quilter said the volunteer role would involve "showcasing Cumberland to a global audience", while the race organisers claimed it would be a "once-in-a-lifetime experience".

Anyone aged 16 and over can apply for both the Tour de France and Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift races, with no previous experience required.

Registrations will remain open until Tuesday 1 September 2026.

The Tour de Britain went through Keswick in 2018

"This is a unique opportunity to be part of a historic event and to help put Cumberland at the centre of one of the world's most iconic sporting occasions," Quilter said.

The opening UK stages of the 2027 men's Tour de France will be:

Stage One: Friday 2 July, Edinburgh to Carlisle

Stage Two: Saturday 3 July, Keswick to Liverpool

Stage Three: Sunday 4 July, Welshpool to Cardiff

During the second stage, competitors will pass through Thirlmere, Grasmere, Rydal Water and Windermere before heading through Lancashire to Liverpool.
