Gunman jailed for 14 years after street shooting
West Midlands PoliceA gunman has been jailed for more than 14 years after shooting a man in the stomach in Birmingham.
The shooting happened during what police described as a violent confrontation in the Bartley Green area on the afternoon of 28 August 2024.
Jordan Edwards, 32, was found guilty of wounding plus firearms and drugs offences.
He was jailed for 14 years and six months at Birmingham Crown Court.
The force said the victim, 48, had been driving a Peugeot van when he became involved in a dispute with an Audi driver. Both vehicles stopped on Glen Side where the victim was joined by his brother and a fight broke out.
Edwards arrived in another Audi and shot the victim in the stomach. The victim's brother, who was known to the shooter, was hit over the head with a brick, the West Midlands force added.
Edwards was identified as the gunman through CCTV, digital evidence and witness inquiries.
He evaded police until 12 January 2025, when officers spotted him and pursued him to a flat on Hylton Street where he was arrested.
A loaded 9mm pistol was found in the kitchen along with cocaine worth about £15,000 and £10,000 in cash hidden in a washing basket, police said.
In addition to wounding, Edwards was convicted of possession of a prohibited weapon and ammunition, possession of cocaine with intent to supply, and acquiring, using or possessing criminal property.
Det Sgt Michael Fisher said the case involved "extreme violence using a firearm on a summer's afternoon".
He added: "Guns have no place on our streets, and we work around the clock to bring those who think it's acceptable to carry or use them to justice."
