Man arrested after fatal classic car crash

A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving while under the influence of drugs following a crash in which the driver of a classic car was killed.

The collision took place at about 20:20 BST on Saturday and involved a green Austin A35 and a black Mazda 6 Sport on the A34 southbound near Sutton Scotney, Hampshire.

A 63-year-old man from Romsey was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hampshire Police said the driver of the Mazda, a 21-year-old man from Tidworth, Wiltshire, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by driving without due care or consideration while unfit through drugs.

He has been bailed until 6 December while investigations continue.

Police have urged anyone who witnessed the crash or captured anything on dashcam to come forward.

A spokesperson for the force described the Austin as a "rare and memorable vehicle" and issued an image of it "to remind people who may have seen it being driven" at the time.
