Major route closed after serious crash

A major route linking the south coast with the Midlands remains closed in one direction following a crash.

The A34 near Winchester, Hampshire, has been shut southbound after what National Highways said was a "serious collision".

The closure is in place between the A303 Bullington Interchange and junction 9 of the M3 near Sutton Scotney while recovery work continues.

A diversion has been put in place following the incident, which prompted a large emergency services response.
