River home to crocodiles chosen as Olympic rowing venue
A river has been cleared as the Olympic and Paralympic venue for rowing and canoeing events at the 2032 Brisbane Games, even though it is home to a number of crocodiles.
The course on the Fitzroy River, Queensland, passed an independent assessment on its suitability, but there are mixed views on the venue.
An earlier version of this video included footage of the Fitzroy River in the Kimberley region of Western Australia instead of the Fitzroy River in Queensland. The previous headline and video also said there were about 500 crocodiles thought to inhabit the Queensland river. Estimates based on a 2020 report by the Queensland government indicate the number is lower. This has now been corrected.
