Nurse receives kidney transplant after manager joins donor scheme

A nurse received a kidney transplant after her manager offered to be her donor.

After many years of managing her kidney condition, Harefield Hospital nurse Charis Browne was told she needed a transplant. Without telling Charis, her manager Emma Neves decided to find out if she could be her donor.

Emma, like Charis, joined the NHS Living Kidney Sharing Scheme, and although it turned out she wasn't a match with her colleague, Emma was paired with someone else. Happily, the scheme also found a match for Charis.

Both women underwent surgery in July 2025 and are now back at work. Charis says she feels "a billion times better" after her transplant.
