US accuses France of 'disingenuous grandstanding' at UN

The United States' deputy ambassador to the UN, Dan Negrea, accused France of "disingenuous grandstanding" during a Security Council meeting on Ukraine, following criticism from France's UN mission over Washington's opposition to a second term for UN human rights chief Volker Türk. Negrea said the US remained a "beacon of liberty."

After the vote on Friday, France's UN mission criticised the US and compared it to North Korea and Russia. "The US used to be a beacon of human rights. Not anymore," it posted on X.
