Moment stolen car driven wrong way down major road
A driver has been arrested after a stolen car was caught driving the wrong way on the A19 in North Yorkshire.
Police suspected the black Vauxhall Insignia, driving near Thirsk, to be a cloned car at about 17:20 BST on Sunday.
A pursuit was authorised and the car took off down the wrong side of the carriageway, driving in an "extremely dangerous manner" towards oncoming traffic, police said.
A spokesperson for the North Yorkshire force said officers made "tactical contact" with the vehicle. The driver, a man in his 20s, fled on foot through a cornfield before being detained on suspicion of a number of offences.
A female passenger was also assessed by medical staff at the scene as a precaution.
According to the force, the car has since been confirmed as stolen from West Yorkshire and inquiries remain ongoing.
No members of the public were injured in the incident but a police vehicle was damaged and the officer driving it was treated for minor injuries.
