As the remains of wartime coastal defences emerge, the BBC looks at how and why they were built.

The coast guard says a person with a metal detector found a "suspicious item" on Tuesday.

One of the men, who dived overboard, was arrested eight hours later wandering around barefoot, NCA says.

A councillor says "doing nothing" in the area is not an option.

The authority already agreed to a £2m contribution toward the project that will protect homes and roads.

A worst-case scenario shows the road could be flooded up to 150 days a year without the work.

The men are seen refusing to stop after being intercepted by Border Force officers off the coast.
