City's indoor public pool could close for major work

A report for a city council cabinet meeting on 21 July says Jack Hunt Swimming Pool's ageing infrastructure is at risk of failure from "operational maintenance issues".
If the £3.8m refurbishment plans are approved, the pool, which is managed by Vivacity, will be shut for 24 weeks from next spring, with an expected reopening in September 2027.
Built in the 1970s, it has been the city's only covered public swimming facility since the closure of the Regional Pool.
GoogleThe pool, which is at Jack Hunt School on Bradwell Road, is described by the council as an "indispensable resource" that must be preserved for future generations.
Modernising the plant room, replacing lighting, refurbishing the changing rooms and renovating the pool's tank are among the planned improvements.
The council said it had allocated £806,000 for the project, but councillors are being asked to approve the release of a further £2.2m and to accept a Sport England grant of £794,000.

A new £36m pool for Peterborough to replace the demolished Regional Pool on Bishop's Road is also planned, and that could open in 2028.
