Man charged with murder after woman in 80s dies

A man has been charged with murder after the death of a woman in her 80s.

Essex Police said it happened at an address in Sawyers Hall Lane, Brentwood, shortly before 07:30 BST on Thursday.

Gary Mansfield, 65, of Stansted Close, Billericay, appeared at Southend Magistrates' Court on Friday, accused of murder and attempted murder, and was remanded in custody ahead of a later hearing.

Det Insp Lydia George said: "Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this tragic incident and we're working to ensure they are supported at this incredibly difficult time."
