Walsall Council is appealing for information after a CCTV camera put up to identify fly-tipping was targeted by arsonists, just days after being installed.

The camera was set up on Hawbush Road in Bloxwich on 13 March, with the arson attack taking place four days later at about 21:00 GMT. Damage was caused to the lighting column that the camera was attached to.

The incident has since been reported to police, and the council is asking local residents to come forward with any information.

The camera formed part of a wider network of enforcement tools used to monitor known hotspots across the town.

In total, 71 cameras have been deployed across Walsall to tackle littering and fly-tipping.

A Walsall Council spokesperson said: "Anyone with any information relating to this incident is urged to contact Walsall Council or Crimestoppers anonymously to stop future incidents like this happening."
