Five people injured as driver crashes into tree

A driver has been arrested after five people were hurt when a car came off a road and crashed into a tree in Warwickshire.

Emergency services were called to Southam Road near Leamington Hastings, Rugby, at about 23:05 BST on Thursday.

One man, who was found outside the car, was treated for serious injuries at the scene before being taken to hospital in a critical condition, the ambulance service said.

A second man with serious injuries, and a third man and two teenage girls with injuries not believed to be serious, also received hospital treatment.

An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and remained in custody, Warwickshire Police said.

Inquires are continuing and any witnesses who saw the car before it crashed have been asked to contact the force.
