Residents have returned to their homes after a security alert at Roosevelt Street, close to Donegall Road, in south Belfast.

People in Iverna Street were also evacuated, and the Sandy Row Community Centre had been opened for residents.

A search was conducted at about 00:10 BST on Thursday following an earlier arrest of a man on suspicion of drugs related offences.

Officers attended a property and a number of items were discovered and taken away for further examination.

A man and a woman, who are both 37, remain in custody.

South Belfast Local Policing Insp Stallard said: "We appreciate the inconvenience caused to residents when they were out of their homes, and we thank them for their patience and co-operation as this public safety operation was conducted."

The policing operation has now ended.
