Field fire near busy road 'started deliberately'

A fire which damaged crops worth £10,000 in Nottinghamshire was started deliberately, police have said.

Emergency services were called to Nottingham Road, Nuthall, at 14:49 BST on 9 July after flames and smoke were spotted close to the busy A610.

After Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service brought the blaze under control, an investigation indicated it had been started maliciously.

Officers said they are particularly keen to identify a teenage boy, described as white, around 14 years old, and wearing a white T-shirt, seen in the field shortly beforehand.

PC Bailey Stackhouse said: "This was a serious fire that could have spread further but for the work of our Fire and Rescue Service colleagues.

"We believe this blaze was started deliberately and are working hard to track down a suspect.

"So, if anyone has any information they have not already shared with us, we would like to hear from them without delay."
