Firefighters have been called to put out a blaze on one of their own fire engines after it went up in flames.

The crew were on their way to a call-out when the blaze broke out on the A350 at Charlton Marshall in Dorset.

In an update at 20:30 BST, Dorset fire service said nobody was hurt but the cab had been completely destroyed.

It added that the road would remain closed for some time to allow for the burnt out vehicle to be recovered and the carriageway to be repaired. An investigation into what caused the fire is under way.

The fire came on the hottest day of the year so far, with temperatures soaring above 36C in parts of southern England.
