Two arrested on suspicion of murder after man shot

Two people have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man was found shot dead in a woodland in Sheffield, police have said.

The man, who is yet to be identified, was found in Ecclesall Woods at about 18:46 BST on Wednesday by a member of the public.

South Yorkshire Police said a post-mortem examination revealed he died as a result of a gunshot wound.

The force said a 34-year-old woman and a 36-year-old man were arrested in Manchester on Thursday on suspicion of murder and currently remain in police custody.

Det Ch Insp Andy Knowles said: "This is a devastating incident which has led to a man losing his life and our thoughts remain with all those who knew him.

"Our investigation into this incident is in its early stages and we are continuing to work relentlessly to piece together the events leading up to this man's death."

He urged anyone with information to contact police and encouraged anyone with concerns or queries to speak to officers in attendance at the scene.
