Man denies role in crash that killed four including brother

A man has appeared in court to deny aiding and abetting dangerous driving after a car crash in which his brother and three other men were killed.

Jack Diggle, 23, Benjamin Dooley, 23, Andrew Roberts, 24, and Craig Shackleton-Brady, 26, died at the scene of the crash on East Prescot Road in Huyton, Merseyside, on 24 July.

Jack Diggle's brother James Diggle, 27, pleaded not guilty to three counts of aiding and abetting Dooley to cause the deaths of the three other men at Liverpool Crown Court earlier.

Diggle, of West Derby, Liverpool, was remanded in custody ahead of a trial on 22 February next year.

About 20 family members were sitting in the public gallery on opposite sides of the court for the short hearing.

Police were called in the early hours of 24 July to reports that a Seat Cupra Formentor had come off the road after crashing into a lamp-post.

An inquest that was opened and adjourned in August heard the four men died of multiple injuries in the single-vehicle collision, which happened at 01:54 BST on the eastbound carriageway of the road.
