Firefighters have been tackling a major fire at Paignton railway station, with train services cancelled and roads closed across the town centre.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service was called to the station at about 05:45 BST to the fire, which was successfully put out, and crews are monitoring hotspots. No injuries have been reported.

Great Western Railway said the line was blocked due to the blaze and passengers should expect disruption to services.

The operator said trains had been cancelled or suspended between Newton Abbot and Paignton. It added Torre, Torquay and Paignton stations would not be served and that the disruption was expected to continue until at least 14:00.

GWR said passengers could use their train tickets at no extra cost on Stagecoach bus routes 11, 12 and 22. The routes connect Dawlish Warren, Dawlish, Teignmouth, Newton Abbot, Torre, Torquay and Paignton.

A limited rail replacement bus service is also operating between Newton Abbot, Torre, Torquay and Paignton, although GWR said it was not currently running to an official timetable.

CrossCountry passengers can also use their tickets at no extra cost on GWR replacement bus services between Newton Abbot and Paignton.
