West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) was called to a large grassland fire at Barr Beacon, on the edge of Walsall, at about 15:15 BST on Sunday.

A number of road closures were still in place on Monday including Beacon Road, Walsall Council said.

Firefighters remained at the scene during the day, with residents advised to keep windows and doors closed and the public asked to avoid the area where possible.

Roads would remain closed until at least 10:00 BST on Tuesday, with the possibility of a further extension, the council said,

A two-way diversion was currently in place via Beacon Hill, Aldridge Road and Queslett Road, a spokesperson added.

Fire crews stayed at the scene overnight, with three fire engines still there at 09:30 BST on Monday, as they continued to put out hot spots across the site, the fire service said.
