A teenager took his own boat to rescue two people who had fallen off a toy inflatable off the Isle of Skye.

RNLI volunteers from Kyle of Lochalsh were called to Broadford Bay at about 21:00 on Saturday following reports of two men getting into difficult in the water.

The lifeboat launched within 10 minutes, but the crew discovered that a teenager who lived locally had already spotted the people in distress, sailed out and took them back to shore safely.

The RNLI crew checked there were no injuries before leaving the scene.

The two who were rescued had fallen off an inflatable boat.

Andrew MacDonald, helm at Kyle RNLI praised the "quick thinking of the teenager" who helped avert a "far more serious situation".

He said: "We'd like to remind people that blow up inflatable toys should be kept for use in swimming pools and not open water, and to always ensure that you have lifejackets on and a means of communicating to the emergency services if you get into any difficulty."
