A man has been fined after he was caught on CCTV eating a takeaway meal off the bonnet of a City of London Police car before attacking it.

Adam Bachir-Belmehdi, 21, was convicted of criminal damage after targeting the vehicle outside Bishopsgate Police Station during the early hours of 3 May.

CCTV footage showed him lying across the car while his friends took photos. He then began eating his takeaway from the bonnet before kicking the vehicle twice and ripping off a wing mirror, leaving it unusable for five days.

Appearing at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Monday, Bachir-Belmehdi was ordered to pay £200 in compensation, a £480 fine, £85 in costs and a £192 surcharge.

Bachir-Belmehdi fled after he was spotted carrying out the attack, but he was caught by two officers who gave chase.

PC Oliver Gage, who attended the incident, said: "Bachir-Belmehdi's actions were completely unnecessary and incredibly childish. As a result, officers were left without one of our vehicles for a number of days.

"We do not tolerate this sort of behaviour in the City of London and want to make it clear that anyone acting in this way will face justice."
