Aberdeen Citadel has suffered from problems including flooding

One of Aberdeen's best known landmarks is to be put up for sale.

The Salvation Army Citadel, which towers over the Castlegate in the city centre, has been closed for several months after suffering flooding in its basement.

The Category B-listed building was purpose-built by the worldwide church in the 1890s and is said to have been styled after Balmoral Castle.

In a statement the Salvation Army said the building required significant upkeep and no longer served its needs in supporting people.

Sunday services are being held at the Footdee Mission Hall with other work in alternative locations in the city.

The charity said it would look to reinvest the sale proceeds in a new home for its work.
