Inflation up in Guernsey but lower over whole year
BBCLevels of inflation in Guernsey have risen in recent months but are below figures from 12 months ago, official data shows.
The States of Guernsey's Data and Analysis team has released its latest quarterly inflation update with figures for the year up to March.
It said the annual change in the Retail Price Index (RPI) for the island was 4% for the year ending in March - down from 4.2% in March 2025 but up from 3.4% from the last update for the year ending in December 2025.
The government said the rates were based on price changes to a "shopping basket", which has its items and weights adjusted periodically.
The data showed the biggest annual percentage rise was in the fuel and light category, which includes gas, oil and electricity in the home.
It had risen by 14.7% in the year ending in March - adding it had increased by 9.6% since the previous quarter.
States officials said while there was no changes in the prices of electricity, gas or coal during the latest quarter, a rise in kerosene's price had led to the increase.
Figures also showed the RPI for food, and catering, had seen rises of 2.1% and 2% in the last quarter respectively while tobacco went up by 9.2%, housing rose by 2.5% and alcohol had an increase of 1.6%.
The only area which had a fall in RPI over the previous quarter was the fares and other travel costs category, which decreased by 0.7%.
