A woman who died trying to rescue her pet dog from the sea off the Lancashire coast was a 68-year-old from Greater Manchester.

Theresa Wheelhouse, from Oldham, was pulled from the water at Rossall Beach in Thornton Cleveleys on 30 May, alongside a man in his 60s. Both were taken to hospital, where Wheelhouse later died.

The man is now making a recovery, Lancashire Police said. Their dog had been rescued and was "safe and well", the force added.

There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death, officers say, and there is set to be an inquest in October.
