Work begins on leisure centre changing rooms refit
South Kesteven District CouncilWork has begun to refurbish the changing rooms at a leisure centre in Lincolnshire.
Contractors are on site at Stamford Leisure Pool, with the upgraded space expected to reopen by mid-July.
South Kesteven District Council (SKDC) announced in May it would spend more than £300,000 on improving the changing facilities at its leisure centres in Stamford, Grantham and Bourne, as well as its sports stadium.
Once the renovation in Stamford is complete, work will then take place at Grantham Meres Leisure Centre with its swimming pools and changing areas closing between 29 July and 3 September for refurbishment.
Councillor Paul Stokes, deputy leader of SKDC and cabinet member for leisure and culture, said the investment would improve facilities across the district.
"We are committed to providing visitors with outstanding leisure facilities where they can exercise, improve their health, take up new activities and socialise through clubs and community events," he said.
The Grantham scheme will also include a deep clean, repairs and general upgrades.
SKDC said the dry side gyms, courts, meeting rooms and other facilities at Grantham Meres Leisure Centre would remain fully open.
Work at Bourne Leisure Centre is due to start in early September, with temporary mixed changing facilities provided while the pool and activities remain open.
Renovations at South Kesteven Sports Stadium, including improvements to changing rooms and outdoor toilets, are scheduled to begin from 23 October.
Stokes said while efforts had been made to minimise disruption, closing parts of Grantham Meres was necessary.
"The works have been carefully planned to minimise disruption, and although we considered options to keep The Meres fully open, these would not have resolved the safety and privacy issues our customers would have faced in going about their leisure activities."
