Baby murder-accused dad heard sobbing at scene
BBCA father accused of murdering his three-month-old son could be heard sobbing as paramedics treated the baby, with police bodycam footage from the scene shown to a jury in court.
Bradley Thomas, 23, is alleged to have violently shaken Emmerson Oak Thomas in October last year, causing a "catastrophic" brain injury.
Teesside Crown Court heard a recording of Thomas telling an ambulance control room worker the baby was not breathing and had "become limp" at a house in Eston near Middlesbrough.
Thomas, of Grasmere Road, Redcar, denies murder and his trial continues.
On the 999 call, Thomas was heard to say: "He was getting croaky, he started making weird noises."
The ambulance service worker then gave instructions to Thomas and the baby's mother on how to try to resuscitate him.
'Deeply unconscious'
On footage played in court taken from cameras worn by police officers when they attended the house, Thomas could be heard saying the baby's breathing had been a concern.
He said: "I tried feeding him. He would make weird like yelps.
"He was just fighting all the time and I was like 'what's the matter'."
Thomas could later be heard sobbing and being told by a police officer that paramedics were doing all they could.
The "deeply unconscious" boy was taken to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough where a scan revealed brain injuries consistent with being shaken and Thomas was arrested, the court heard.
Det Con Mel Phelps of Cleveland Police told the court Emmerson's mother said Thomas had always been "careful" with the baby.
She said the mother had stated both parents had seen details of other cases involving shaken babies and both had cried as they were upset at such incidents.
The prosecution alleges Thomas became angry with the baby when he failed to settle and caused a traumatic head injury by "vigorous, forceful shaking."
