Ten arrests as balaclava-wearing teens clash with weapons

Ten arrests have been made after police were called to large-scale violent disorder involving teenagers with weapons including machetes, knives and bats.

Greater Manchester Police officers were called to the incident on South Street in Lower Openshaw, Manchester, at about 12:50 BST.

The force said they found a large group of youths at the scene, with many wearing balaclavas, and various weapons including machetes, knives and bats were reportedly used.

Ten males aged 17-19 were held and two people were taken to hospital, police added.

An investigation is ongoing and four cordons remain in place on Goole Street, Kellbrook Road, Herne Street Park and Abbeyfield Square.

A police spokesman said: "There will be an increased police presence in the area while enquiries are ongoing and we understand the incident may cause concern within the community."

Anyone with information or relevant CCTV, mobile phone or dashcam footage has been urged to contact police.
