Cable theft causes 'widespread' disruption

Residents in Lincolnshire have been dealing with "widespread" disruption to communication networks this weekend, caused by the theft of about 0.6 miles (1km) of cabling, police have said.

Officers said the theft took place in the Bishop Norton area either late on Friday or in the early hours of Saturday.

It is believed the cable was lifted through manhole covers.

Lincolnshire Police appealed for anyone who has any information or witnessed anything suspicious to contact them.

A spokesperson said: "We are keen to hear from members of the public who may have noticed any that have been removed or moved."

They added that given the amount of cable taken it is thought that a large vehicle or vehicles may have been used.
