Grants of £10k to spark 'positive future' for town
BBCPeople are being invited to bid for grants for small projects that will help build "a positive future" for Grimsby.
The Give It A Go scheme is offering grants of up to £10,000 for ideas that are "ready to test, start or spark something new", according to North East Lincolnshire Council.
The money is the first to be offered from a £20m government funding pot for Grimsby, with £2m being received every year for 10 years.
Applications for the first round of funding, which will distribute £45,000 in total, are open until 5 June.
According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, a second round is due to follow later in the year, with a total of £90,000 on offer.
Further details about applying and advice sessions are available on the North East Lincolnshire Council website.
The government money is part of a wider £1.1bn package shared between 55 towns across the UK.
It was announced in 2023 by Michael Gove, who was then levelling up secretary.
At the time, Gove explained his vision to see community leaders, business people and local bodies work together to forge the futures of their town centres.
The council has appealed for people to volunteer to be "decision makers", in order to determine which projects receive money.
A spokesperson said no previous experience was needed, "just a commitment to building a positive future for the town".
