A free annual picnic is set to take place in a Lancashire with a football themed twist.

Picnic in the Park will return to Astley Park, in Chorley, on Sunday - with live music, main stage entertainment and stalls open from 12:00 to 16:00 BST.

Ahead of the World Cup kicking off on Thursday, this year's free family-friendly picnic will be football-themed - with football workshops, a Chorley FC mascot walkabout and international-themed entertainment and food.

The organisers at Check Out Chorley and Chorley Council have said they are "getting in the World Cup mood" this year. And councillor Peter Wilson added: "Picnic in the Park is a fantastic event. It's set to be a great day."

Event-goers are invited to bring their own blankets, deck chairs and picnics and set up at a spot on the lawns in front of Astley Hall to settle in for the afternoon festivities.

Entertainment and food

Organisers have said there will be food and drink stalls - including Greek food, pizza, a coffee van and an ice cream stand.

Free event entertainment throughout the day will include football skills sessions and football darts - along with walkabout acts and craft activities.

There will also be children's rides and face painting - and a number of stalls including the Girl Guides and the Leyland Guide Dogs.

There will be a number of acts taking on the main stage throughout the day - with acts including Latin performers July Julay and the Mambo Kings, the Chorley Silver Brass band and country music duo, Gravel & Gunn.
