Woman convicted of historic sexual offences
BBCA woman convicted of historic sexual offences against a teenager has been sentenced to 456 hours of community service.
Donna Bentley, 53, was found guilty of three offences – two counts of procuring an act of gross indecency and one of indecent assault – by a trial jury in July.
Jersey's Royal Court heard the offences were committed in the 1990s when the victim was under the age of 16 and therefore unable to legally consent to sexual activity.
The prosecution crown advocate Carla Carvalho told the court he suffered PTSD and sexual anxiety later in life as a result of the abuse.
Bentley, from Jersey, was aged between 19 and 21 when she committed the offences, and resigned from her job as care manager at the charity Les Amis when charges were brought against her.
When passing sentence the judge Deputy Bailiff Mark Temple said it was usual to send people to prison for sexual offences against children but this was considered to be an exceptional case.
Police Det Con Elianne Jones said it took "considerable courage" to report what happened and hoped it would show other victims they would be supported, taken seriously and listened to.
