The family of a teenager who was killed by a car in Leeds city centre have said their "hearts are broken".

Rowan Carty, 18, from Beeston, died after he was hit by a BMW i40 M50 on Park Lane just after 21:10 BST on Friday.

West Yorkshire Police said three men, two aged 22 and one aged 24, were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and had since been bailed pending further inquiries.

The victim was taken to hospital but died from his injuries. His family said: "We would like to thank members of the public and emergency services for their efforts in trying to save Rowan's life."

They added: "Our hearts are broken. Please respect our privacy at this difficult time."

The crash occurred near the split for the A58 entry slip road.

The BMW, which had been travelling away from the city centre at the time, stopped near the scene.

The force said: "Inquiries have established a silver Toyota Yaris T-sport was present in the area at the time of the collision. Both vehicles have been recovered."

Officers urged anyone who witnessed the collision or who has relevant footage to come forward.
