A 17-year-old boy who died in a crash following a police pursuit has been named.

Oscar Hathway, from Knowle, south Bristol, was the passenger of a white Nissan Juke that was involved in a crash with a black Audi S3 being driven by members of the public on the A37 Wells Road just after 04:00 on Sunday, Avon and Somerset Police said.

A 17-year-old boy who was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving has been released on conditional bail.

The force said the crash followed a short police pursuit involving an unmarked police vehicle and the white Nissan Juke.

Police said three other people – two passengers from the Nissan and the Audi driver – were taken to hospital with injuries and have since been discharged.

Avon and Somerset Police's Professional Standards Unit was informed and a mandatory referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) as a death following police contact.

The force said the family is being supported by police and "our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time."

Anyone who witnessed the incident is urged to contact police.
