The Grade II listed park officially reached its centenary on Friday

Thousands of people enjoyed a two-day party to mark the 100th birthday of Blackpool's Stanley Park.

The Grade II listed park officially reached its centenary on Friday, 100 years after it first opened its gates in 1926.

Deputy Lieutenant of Lancashire, Sir Bill Beaumont, re-enacted the official opening of the park's gates, just as it happened originally.

Local schoolchildren performed a poem, dance and a version of I Do Like to Be Beside the Seaside song before afternoon tea.

On Saturday there was a range of sporting activities with BMX and archery as well as fairground rides.

There was also a makers market in the Italian Gardens, food stalls, heritage talks and tours.

Other festivities included skateboarding, a mini festival, art and performances from Waterloo Women's Choir, a jazz band and a DJ.
