New Council of Ministers revealed
IOM GovernmentThe Isle of Man's new Council of Ministers has been announced, including three political newcomers.
With the majority of the House of Keys elected in September first-time politicians, ministers without previous experience, had been expected.
But there are a number of experienced members that have not been appointed, including the former Chief Minister Alfred Cannan.
Chief Minister Chris Thomas said he had "formed a team that will work together to get things done and deliver for the people of the Isle of Man".
The ministerial positions have gone to:
- Chris Thomas, Chief Minister and Minister for the Cabinet Office
- Robert Cowell (newcomer) Minister for Enterprise
- Sarah Maltby, Minister for Education, Sport and Culture
- Rachel Glover (newcomer) Minister for Environment, Food and Agriculture
- Claire Christian, Minister for Health and Social Care
- Jason Moorhouse, Minister for Infrastructure
- Jane Poole-Wilson, Minister for Justice and Home Affairs
- Michael Crowe (newcomer) Minister for the Treasury
Other experienced members without a ministerial role include Onchan MHK Rob Callister and Douglas East MHK Joney Faragher.
'Tackle challenges'
Thomas said he looked "forward to engaging with all members of Tynwald and working collaboratively to deliver change, tackle the challenges before us and make the most of the opportunities ahead".
He said: "My priority this week, following discussions with many members, has been to appoint ministers for the main government departments with a breadth of experience and backgrounds."
Several MHKs will also become departmental members, members of statutory boards, and other public bodies.
"As the priorities of the new administration become clearer, there is still scope to support the Council of Ministers with further appointments," Thomas added.
