Rescuers said four people, cut off by rising tides, were rescued in two separate call-outs on the same day

Four people had to be rescued after being stranded by rising tides in two call-outs on the same day.

Seahouses RNLI volunteers and the Berwick Coastguard rescued two men from a car after it got stuck near the Holy Island causeway, near to the refuge hut, at 15:48 BST on Sunday.

Earlier that day the teams had already come to the aid of a man and child who had become trapped on a sand bank due to high tides at Budle Bay.

None of those rescued were injured and an RNLI spokesperson warned conditions could "change quickly and strongly".

"Fortunately, there were no reported injuries other than them being cold and wet, they were handed into the care of colleagues from the coastguard rescue team for further medical assessment and care," the spokesperson said.

"Both of these shouts are a good reminder for people unfamiliar with how quickly and strongly the tides come in along our coastline that a simple walk on the beach can turn into a dangerous situation very quickly."
