Wettest week for two years after named storms
Poppy/WeatherWatchersEngland had its wettest week for two years, due to heavy rain from two named storms, Austen and Boelo.
The Environment Agency said the period between 20 to 27 October was the wettest week since October 2024.
A daily average of 55mm of rain fell across England in the seven days with as much as 87mm in the South West.
Much of the country remains officially in drought, with a severe drought in place across parts of Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Somerset, East Sussex and West Sussex.
The downpours meant England has now received 11% more rainfall than the long-term average for October, according to the Environment Agency.
River levels have increased at all but two of the sites the agency monitors.
