A former hotel and neighbouring buildings in Blackpool have been fenced off amid concerns they pose a danger to pedestrians.

The Pennine Hotel on Central Drive, near Havelock Street, has been deteriorating for several years, with its windows now boarded up.

Blackpool Council said it was taking steps to make the buildings safe.

It said the cost of the work would be recovered from the owners.

Councillor Dave Flanagan, the council's cabinet member for housing, said it wanted the buildings brought back into use through investment or sale.

Steve Savage, who runs the nearby Shining Diamond B&B, previously described the former hotel as "a serious problem".

"It creates a very bad impression in what is a holiday zone and children try to get in there all the time. It is an accident waiting to happen," he said.
