Police officer struck by car after shop search
HandoutA police officer has been taken to hospital after being struck by a car during an operation targeting a newsagents.
Witnesses described the "shaken" driver getting out of her vehicle, on Pilch Lane in Huyton, Knowsley, at 09:25 BST while staff at a nearby cafe handed out pillows after the officer was struck.
The Merseyside Police officer has been taken to hospital where she is being treated for a leg injury.
The force said the driver of an AMG Mercedes Sport car was assisting officers with their enquiries.
According to witnesses, police had been conducting a search at a newsagents, which has since been boarded up by officers.
In a statement, Ch Insp Christopher Bland said: "We will always fully investigate any incident that causes harm to our officers whilst on duty.
"A police scene is currently in place and members of the public are advised to avoid the area while enquiries are ongoing."
